This was great. I have always loved Geneva/St.Charles area of the Fox River and one day hope to live there. My Father and Uncle used to take Me fishing in the Island Park area on the Fox River and the Lagoon in Island Park in the 1980's and early 1990's. I continued the tradition by taking my son there. I also use the bike path during Fall/Winter. Such a Beautiful area especially Geneva.

Parts of the original 1853 Bridge are still being used on another Bridge along the C&NW. Current Bridge is from 1920.

Nice video! The rail line doesn’t connect Chicago with Galena. This line makes its way west to Omaha. The name Galena & Chicago Union Railroad ( predecessor to the Chicago & North Western ) may have caused that confusion to the researchers of this video. The G&CU had intentions of building west to Galena, but only made it to Freeport ( today it goes as far as Rockford ). The main line was slightly reconfigured at Turner Junction ( West Chicago ) & built west to Geneva & beyond making the line to Freeport of secondary importance. The G&CU was Chicago’s first railroad & was founded by Chicago’s first mayor, Wm. Ogden.

What this video really needs to spice it up is a gratuitous 'video-bombing' by the one & only Mayor Ray Rogina!!!
